You go online. You go onto Google. You type in "new converse shoes". You get on page one of Google. You know that the stuff on the first page is usually the most relevant and interesting and you don't bother clicking on page two unless you really want those new converse shoes. The world of SEO just passed you by. Haven't you ever wondered how people get on page one of Google?

I mentioned something in the previous paragraph called SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and it's exactly as it implies: optimizing your website so that it can get on page one of Google. Now, it obviously isn't just Google. It can also be Yahoo! or Live.com or any other search engine. There are heaps of benefits of knowing how to get on page one of Google. If you're an Internet Marketer or Webmaster, your site naturally receives more free traffic on the first page. The key to get on page one of Google is by making heaps of backlinks. A backlink is typically a one-way link that that leads from one site to (preferably) your own. Ever heard of the saying, "all roads lead to Rome?" well you want your website to be like Rome. No one's going to want to go to Rome if it's boring, so make your content interesting! No one's going to want to build a road to Rome if there's nothing there that's relevant to them.

The secret to REALLY boost up your website ranking is in getting backlinks from other "Romes" in the neighborhood. Translated online, this means getting links from other important sites that have heaps of backlinks that go towards them.

So how do you go about getting backlinks from other Romes? There are a few things you could do. Write articles and submit them to article directories, leave comments on blogs with your link in them, even go as far as to e-mail the big companies asking them to link back to their site.

I never said that getting on page one of Google was easy. Straightforward? Yes. Easy? No. At least you now have the basics of SEO down pat. So, what are you waiting for? Try and get on page one of Google now!
