Link Building in Light of Vision-based Page Segmentation

The days of basing a successful link building strategy on link quantity and anchor text alone may be numbered. The link popularity theories behind PageRank and Hilltop remain important, but major search engines are continually adding new elements to their link algorithms to improve search relevance. One of these new elements is the concept of visual page segmentation which was recently proposed in a paper entitled "Block-level Link Analysis," by Deng Cai, Xaiofei He, Ji-Rong Wen and Wei-Ying, available online at http://research.microsoft.com/research/pubs/view.aspx?tr_id=690.

How VIPS Works

The paper introduces VIsion-based Page Segmentation (VIPS), which begins with the premise that current link popularity algorithms are faulty in that they consider each page on the World Wide Web as a single node. Different "blocks" on a page however often have different semantics; for instance, a block on the left side of the page might contain a general navigational menu or text link advertisements, whereas the block on the right side of the page might contain an informational article or links to other Web sites about a certain topic. When VIPS is applied, these blocks can be separated by a computer with a vision-based program. Each block can then be considered as the fundamental unit of analysis, rather than the entire page. When a link is scored in terms of its block, the link"s contextual relevance can be interpreted more intelligently by search engines.

What VIPS Means for Search Engine Optimization

In the near future major search engines such as Google, Yahoo! Web Search and MSN Search will likely integrate some form of visual page segmentation into their search algorithms. A successful search engine optimization strategy should incorporate knowledge of block-level analysis to ensure that the effects of a link building campaign will be maximized. But how exactly does a concept like VIPS affect search engine optimization? Two consequences in particular should make every SEO take pause.

Devaluation of Links from Certain Blocks

VIPS will allow search engines to differentiate between links from the content block and links from other blocks such as text advertisement blocks or footer blocks. As such, algorithms could easily weight links from each block differently.

A link from the content block could be considered as more likely to be a true recommendation than a link from a text link advertisement block. Search engines may therefore give extra weight to in-content links while devaluing links that appear to be advertisements. Sites that rent links through link networks usually do place them in a block above, below or to the side of the content block. When VIPS is implemented, there is a risk that many rented advertisement links could be devalued.

Improved Contextual Analysis

The theme in which your link is placed also will be more important than ever before. Many search engine optimizers have voiced their opinion that "anchor text is everything"; that is, the theme of a page linking to a Web site does not parse link relevance, but only the anchor text of the link does.

With block-level analysis, search engines will be able to recognize the theme of any given block more easily. This should have the effect of boosting the link relevance for links from tightly-themed content blocks, while devaluing links that are in a block with no apparent theme.

Links That Will Always Soar

A search engine optimizer need not fear the effects of VIsion-based Page Segmentation. Although VIPS will probably devalue certain types of links that are favored by many SEOs, it will concurrently increase the value of themed, in-context links.

I have always stressed the value of legitimate links from directories, articles and press releases. These types of links are placed in a content block and are also tightly themed (that is, your target keywords will be near your link).Webmasters who actively build these types of links will benefit from long term rankings even when new twists such as VIPS are added into the algorithmic mix. In fact, these algorithmic improvements should improve search relevance and neutralize some of the spammier link building methods. And that's something we should all be happy about.

Profitable Article Marketing - Announcing 4 Profitable Ways to Amplify Your Article Marketing

Promoting your products and services using paid advertisement can be costly. For instance, you must shell out thousands of dollars if you opt to use PPC advertising and banner ads. What happens if you don't have the money to cover for your advertising cost? The answer to this is simple. Look for an effective and free marketing tool. For that, I highly recommend article marketing.

Here are the 4 profitable ways to amplify your article marketing:

1. Promote your products. No, you can't pitch in your products in your article body but you can still market them through your content in a subtle way. You can do so by writing topics that are closely related to your offerings. By doing so, you can create a need for your products that will potentially compel online users to make a purchase. For instance, if you are selling car insurance, talk about how many cars are being stolen every year and how your products can give your potential clients peace of mind.

2. Follow the rules set by publishing sites to increase the chances of your articles being posted online. Some of the rules are the following: your articles must run at least 300 words, they must be well-written, keyword-rich, and targeted to the needs of your readers. They must also be free from inappropriate content, hyperlinks, and blatant advertisements.

3. Widely distribute your articles. Don't be contented by article submissions sites. To augment your inbound links, post your articles to directories, related blogs, social bookmarking sites, forums, and on your own website.

4. Make your articles search engine-friendly. Identify the most searched keywords on your chosen niche and sprinkle them all through out your content to make your articles highly searchable online.

If you want to attract more people to your website, you need to figure out some effective ways on how you can offer them with what they really need - information. The best marketing tool that can help you achieve your goal is article marketing. Through this, you will be able to impart your knowledge to your target market to build rapport and trusting business relationship.

Here are the 4 incredible methods to energize your article marketing:

Whatever is your objective in publishing your articles, make sure that your resource box is compelling enough to maximize your chances of realizing your marketing goals. 4. Widely distribute your articles. Post your articles to all possible avenues that can give them exposure online. Submit to article submission sites, directories, and social bookmarking sites. You can also post them on blogs, forums, and even on your website.

How to Get High Listing for Your Website in Search Engines

Welcome

Welcome to the world of Internet Marketing. Now you can use the knowledge you gain in this Special Report to market your products and services using the web, and reap rich rewards.

Introduction:

Google has changed our world forever. We no longer ask people for recommendations; we no longer call our friends for long chats. We no longer idle our time at the coffee machine…

We are mostly busy at our Notebooks or PCs, finding something or the other on the Internet, using search engines like Google or Yahoo. There is so much happening in the world, and internet is becoming the key medium to stay in touch with everything – electronic greeting cards, MSN messenger, GMail, Net2Phone, grocery shopping, Amazon, eBay, Internet Radio & TV… you name it, and it is available on the Internet. So why would you or your customers leave home at all.

Small Businesses Need a Jumpstart on the Internet

With all this happening at warp speed, the small business owner has to think of ways to get their product or service in front of eager buyers. And where do you find such eager buyers? After all they may not visit your shop or office. Hint: Find them on the Internet.

Two Ways to Get New Customers

There are only two ways to get customers - either you find them, or they find you.

Push Method – You find your Customers

Competing in a global marketplace, you will have increasingly less time to find customers yourself. And the more you chase customers, the more they run away from you.

Pull Method – Your Customers Find You

A pull method, where the prospects eagerly seeking your products or services find you works the best. Because they seek you - “the expert”, you have a much higher perceived value, and consequently, you have to do much less of selling… (They are already sold when they found the expert in you).

Make it Easier to Find You

If you (meaning your website) is easy to find, more prospects will not have to hunt you down. Today, they may search high and low on the search engines finding your products and services.

If your website is listed high on the search engines (Hint: in the first page or two), you have a high chance of getting their attention. If you are among the remaining 432 million pages, you stand no chance.

Not everyone can be in the top pages of search engine results. But you can, if you follow certain principles, some guidelines, and show persistence and perseverance.

The art of optimizing your web pages, so that Search engine think they are highly relevant to what people are searching for, is called Search Engine Optimization, or SEO in short.

Search Engine Optimization Explained

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is making your each page on your website work like a magnet to attract eager prospects. It starts will identifying those keywords that people are most likely to search your product or service for in search engines.

Keyword Identification

For example, if you sell rare second hand watches on the web, you want those people who search for “second hand Rolex”, or “used Patek Philippe” or “rare branded watches” to come to your website.

Optimizing your Web Page for these Keywords

So you optimize the pages with such keywords. You use these so called “keywords” in your web copy (body or text written on your webpage). There are many ways to get these words on the page.

For example – your page title could be “How to Select a Rare Branded Watch”. Then the various paragraphs on this page could have sub heading like – “Finding the Rare Branded Watch”, “How to identify a Fake Branded Watch”, “Negotiating Price for a Rare Branded Watch”, “Huge Collection of Second Hand Rolex Watches” etc.

Search Engines Find Your Goldmine

You might have noticed that the keyword “rare branded watch” has already appeared multiple times in the title, body, and description. The Search Engines think that you have a great content for the word “rare branded watch”, and move your listing much higher in the search engine results.

If you consistently and correctly do this, you have a much better chance of hitting the top pages for your keywords.

Don’t Over Do it, or you will get banned

This is just one of the techniques. Of course you can’t over do it, or else Google could punish your site and not show it at all if they think you have purposely “stuffed” your keywords in the body of your webpage, and the sentences do not make much sense. So do it carefully, and benefit from this technique, but don’t go overboard.

Other Ways to Get a High Search Engine Listing

SEO requires you to tweak so many aspects of your website – you could continue to do it for the next few months easily. And this is a key point too… continue to make changes to your site regularly. This show that your site is current, up-to-date, and not something that was setup in 1998. Of course, a current site is rewarded with a higher rank than an old site that is never updated.

Some of the other basic SEO Techniques are:

a. Optimizing your Page Title,

b. Using appropriate Meta Tags for Keywords, Description

c. Using Descriptive Headings

d. Having a Site Map on your website

e. Making your Site Rich with Content

f. Making Navigation to inner pages easier

g. Building Inbound Links from other Directories, & Authority Sites

Each of these techniques takes time, and you must do it carefully, correctly, and make sure you keep the site updated for continuous good support from search engines.

More information is given below for each of these SEO techniques. Use it to your advantage.

Optimizing Page Title

A page title is what is displayed in top of your browser’s window. Most websites don’t even have a page title. Others have the company name as the page title. Ideally, each page of your website should have a unique page title. It should be short, yet clearly summarize what the page is all about. Keep it within 60 to 100 characters. The Windows Title bar can’t show any longer than that anyway.

Using appropriate Meta Tags for Keywords, Description

If you have never heard of Meta Tags, do not be alarmed. These Meta tags are not meant for humans. It is more meant for search engines, so that they can assess what the site is all about. To check if your webpage has Meta tags setup, visit any page on your website, and do a View Source from your browser’s menu.

You will notice that just below the < HEAD > & < TITLE > are tags like meta name="keywords" content="Branded Watches, Second hand watches” meta name="description" content="Branded Watches Unlimited – Second hand branded Watch Store”

Many search engines use these Meta tags to show the description below your website in the search engine listings pages. The biggest Search engine who uses this kind of listing is Yahoo. Even Google uses the keywords to some extent.

Using Descriptive Headings

If you know basic HTML, using Header tags (starting from H1, H2 to H6), for your headings, sub headings gets these keywords a higher weightage in search engine rankings.

You can edit the HTML for your website using editors like Microsoft FrontPage or Dream weaver. Then add a H1 tag to your most important heading line. For sub headings, use H2, and so on.

Having a Site Map on your website

A site map is a virtual map of your website. It shows how the different pages are linked to each other. With this kind of map, it becomes much easier for the search engines to reach all pages of your site, and spider them.

There are many free tools available from the search engines that can help you make a Sitemap. Even Google offers its own Google Sitemap tool.

Making your Site Rich with Content

If you regularly add Product News, Happenings, Company News, Articles of interest, then your site becomes more lively, more interesting, and a place where your prospects may find much of the information they are looking for.

A deep, content rich site is a boon to you, which will help to get higher search engine listings with ease.

Making Navigation to inner pages easier Most sites use a Breadcrumb trail kind of navigation to aid the browser in finding information, and retracting to other branches as and when needed.

A breadcrumb trail looks like this

Home > Books > Marketing Books > Magnetic Marketing

This way, a user can navigate to any level. From “magnetic marketing” back to “Books” or Home in a single click.

Search engines love a site which makes navigation easy. You prove to them that you are thinking about your browsers, your customers, and not only yourself.

Building Inbound Links from other Directories, & Authority Sites

One of the most important aspect that can make or break your journey into the top pages of search engines is Inbound Links.

Inbound links means links to your website, coming from other websites, directories and authority sites. It is no longer about content alone. Today, there are millions of great sites that are rich with content. To compete with them, you can also build great content. But that is not sufficient.

Search engines like Google and Yahoo look at who links to you. If you have great content, an authority site, then a lot of websites, blogs must be linking to that content. If no one links to you, then Google does not give you a higher rank.

SEO for SEO Contests

SEO Contests are competitions between SEO Specialists and others who want to either showcase their search engine optimization skills or test their own knowledge of SEO.

Typically, a contest is set up and a keyword or keyphrase is defined by the contest holder. The object of the contest then is to develop a website or a web page that is optimized for that keyword or key phrase. The goal then is to obtain the 1st position rank for a search engine or several search engines for the given keyword.

Unless the contest holder's rules specify against it, most participants will attempt to register a domain name containing the keyphrase.

The next step in developing a contest entry is to provide content. Because the keyphrase is the equivalent of an imaginary word, any content will suffice. Most people choose to talk about the contest, the current rankings, and how they are doing in the contest. Others choose to write stories or even use random text generation to provide content.

Content and relevant domain names are a good start but that's just the beginning. The real work begins in obtaining backlinks. Under normal circumstances, SEO experts move at a slow even pace in achieving backlinks that are relevant to their site topic. In SEO Contests, other than other contest sites, there really aren't any sites that are relevant to your keyword so the tendency is to acquire as many highly ranked web sites as possible.

Much of how the contest will conclude also depends on the timing of the contest. A long term contest lasting around a year will call for a different strategy than a shorter contest.

Long term contests have both the benefit and detriment of having to survive multiple Google updates.

Google updates make or break your contest entry. If you've engaged in any black hat SEO, the more updates that you pass, the more likely it is that Google will discover your technique and penalize your site. A short term contest allows more flexibility in your seo technique. You can get your hat a little dirty and not be in much danger of loosing your ranking because of a Google penalty.

Easy Search Engine Optimization

When people search for something online, they type the keyword or key phrase in the popular search engines, which give them an extensive list of sites relevant to that search. Now to make your website visible in the first set of search results, it needs to have a good page rank. Search engine optimization is the means to this end, the branch of activity which aims at enhancing this rank of a website with some structured strategies. Most owners of sites invest a fortune and valuable time in creating a web presence, but sadly, they fail to consider the more important aspect that is, how the website will come to the notice of web-users.

Long back it was just a matter of some time to launch a site design it, fill it up with nice content and submit it into some directories it was as simple as that! And search engines would also give good ranking to that website for the keywords featuring in the body-text of the web page.

And since the number of websites present then were not even half as much of what is there now and since the techniques of optimizing a site in search engines were not as improved, keywords could be repeated along with other otherwise refutable maneuvers like creating many domains with the same content. And this too ensured those sites a good position in the popular search engines.

But things have come a long way from that now. There has been a dramatic change in the search engine marketing scenario. Today, just ordinary designing, content and submission wont help; the website owner needs to do his homework study the various types of relevant keywords typed in search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN and then fashion his/her website accordingly so that the website ranks well enough to be viewed by the majority of people. And because today people tend to look for everything online and keep searching for the right goods and services till they find it, the search engine optimization is a big challenge, although with some amount of risk involved.

Now web presence is something very important here. If you are stepping into the online scene, your website needs to have a web presence. If not, you have a disfavor. The search engines, particularly Google, do not prefer giving high ranks to new domains. Position improves with time, as the website becomes old.

So obviously, websites which are older in time and already have a secured web presence, stand a better chance of getting higher ranks in the search engine. Listed below are some of the key factors for achieving the top positions in search engines.

Clean Codes: All search engines prefer a neatly coded website. When a webpage is designed in MS Word, it generates untidy html code. This is not a good thing. Also, website owners need to be careful about the WYSIWYG editors. Some use proprietary tags in the html and thus become uncongenial to the search engines.

Content: No saying would suffice for the stupendous importance of proper content that helps a website to score high in the search engines. Content is the backbone for any site. Search engines often look for relevant keywords or phrases in the body text of a webpage to identify those with the searched words/phrases. If found, your website is considered relevant for those keywords and you can expect a pretty good rank.

Tags: Yet another very vital aspect in html coding is the title tags and meta-description tags. To give your website a decent search engine position, these tags must contain the relevant keywords which you think users will look for.

Linking: Simply put, linking means other websites linking to your website. Now how would that help, you ask? This is good for your website precisely because the search engines consider each related link on your site as a given vote. The logic is easy if site X links to site Y, it obviously follows that site Y is of some value or worthy of it. These links can either come from important directories like Yahoo! or Dmoz, or from other related websites. For instance, if your website promotes clothes, a link from a fashion houses website would be relevant and count as a good vote in search engine parameters. However, exchanging links with questionable sites like link farms is not appreciated. Link farms are considered worthless in the sense that these are directories that just collect links without any valuable content in them. So whenever you add links to your website, ensure that those links have your targeted keywords in their anchor text.

Article Writing Strategies To Get Into Zen Flow - 7 Tips

The more you write, the larger your impact. If thats true, why is it that so many authors find it hard to either start writing or to complete articles that they started?

You either buy into the perception of writers block or you buy into the perception that its easy for you to enter and exit an effortless state of flow (some call it the alpha mind state) or the zone when writing. Its always a choice and therefore you either set yourself up for failure or for runaway success.

Here are 7 strategies that can help you achieve the zone of flow when it comes to writing your best works:

1) Intentionally create and control your writing environment. This may include having the right clothing on or off, the right music or complete lack thereof, the perfect temperature that you enjoy writing in, your favorite chair or desk and the right amount of lighting or darkness.

2) Time Management: This includes being free for blocks of time without distraction or interruption from friends, family, co-workers, or whomever. You have permission to not answer the phone and its also ok to shut off the ringer. Its also ok to not check email, voice mail, your PDA, nothing.

3) Try writing off hours when youre beyond tired. Usually the sage advice is to only write when youre at your mental best but glorious works have been created when burning the midnight oil. Consider testing writing a block of time when you normally would have gone to bed.

4) Prepare and invest in the best writing tools. If you want to create great works, you must have the best tools. This may include a fast computer, broadband Internet to do research faster, a large flatscreen monitor to be easy on your eyes, and Microsoft Word.

5) Create an anchor to get yourself in state. This is NLP or self-anchoring if you will, but you should have something you do, say, think, touch, or execute in order to instantly put yourself in the state of flow that allows your best works to come out. Imagine yourself the last time you were in flow and writing was effortless. Thats the place you want to put your mind to begin writing.

6) Pre-write your way to success the day before you enter the zone. This means free writing ideas and thoughts about what youre going to write about in the future so that your unconscious mind can organize the thoughts for you. The creativity that is in you will often mentally pre-write the entire works for you or at least help you outline your major points so that it will be effortless when you begin to physically write.

7) Remove negative self-talk and mental chatter if you want to enter and stay in the zone. Deny yourself the payoff that you normally get from negative self-talk and be open to the possibility of allowing yourself to zero in on the purpose of your writing. This is a time to let your ego check out. Meditate if you must for a minute or two to focus on your breathing to stop the chatter. Raise your standards and only allow positive self-talk to keep your writing on target.

Conclusion:

You can consciously choose to enter the state of creative writing flow and it takes a conscious effort to set yourself up for success. This includes controlling your environment, pre-writing, having the right tools to do the job, and only allowing your mental self-talk to lead yourself into positive questions that result in a creativity release of your very best written works. Decide and then execute to increase your creative writing volume in the Zen state of creative writing flow.

  4. Write articles: Writing articles related to your subject, which you have in your web site and submit them to different Article Submission sites is a great way to improve the popularity of your site. When you write an article, you can actually embed your site information as a bottom line. This will act like a link for your site where people who read your article can find you.
  5. Quality Content: Content is the core of any web site and it should be of good Quality. By quality, I mean that one who reads the content should find some meaning it or gain something out of it. Moreover, if the content is updated regularly, Search Engines will be motivated to visit your sites regularly.

Article Submission Software Makes Any Website A Star!

Article submission software has totally revolutionized the traditional methods of submitting article manually. Article submission or what is fondly termed as article marketing plays a pivotal role in the overall website promotion strategy of any webmaster. If you are not submitting articles to promote your website today, then you are seriously missing out a huge chunk of targeted traffic eager to buy your products, or sign up for your affiliate programs or list. This article will put you on a walkthrough in the world of article marketing and how article submission software fits in like a glove with this traffic generating technique.

Articles are your posters to the internet world, announcing your web presence. People submit articles to communicate their thoughts and ideas or introduce readers to their websites. A well-written article would pull in unstoppable traffic, while a poorly written one drives visitors away. But the truth is, unless you get your article out to as many article directories as possible, it is no use even if you wrote an excellent informational article.

Article submission is not the right way, mass article submission is. The problem with mass submitting manually to article directories is it takes ages, and is hardly an enjoyable experience. You would go through endless logging into article directories, copying and pasting your article at each site. It could take at least several hours to one full day to submit to 100 article directories, without the help of article submission software. Ask the old-timers and they would share their agonizing experience with you. But it eventually would pay off as they know that articles when given enough exposure to more audience would draw lots of targeted traffic. Some established websites syndicate content from article directories and when your article gets picked up and published, this could mean an unceasing stream of traffic to your website.

Since there is a demand for article submission service and no one had come up with article submission software, smart business people, mostly internet marketers started article submission services such as iSnare, Article Marketer, etc to help webmasters submit their articles. Good article submission services that provide top-notch service to their customers are still around, while some shabby ones just come and go. No matter what, there is a setback in using these services, that is, the cost. Such services either charge you a flat rate for a fixed number of articles to be submitted, or a quarterly subscription with a limit to the number you can submit. It can range from a few dollars per article to over $100 to submit about 10 articles. Unless your article is guaranteed to attract enough traffic to be profitable, it could be a costly exercise.

The beauty of technology is its endless pursuit of improving the way we carry out our tasks. Developers have built many article submission software to help us webmasters to expedite the article submission process. Some article submission software have taken article marketing a step further with full automation, and even allows for modifications of your article content. Many webmasters have ditched manual submission or subscription to article submission services for these tools. The robustness of such software and its one-off price tag are the main reasons why they are so attractive. A Need for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Have you ever heard about stories on those online entrepreneurs who hit it big after getting a #1 rank in several popular search engines? You must be wondering what it would take for you to achieve that #1 spot in the search engine result pages (SERPs). Search Engine Optimization, or commonly known as SEO plays an important role to ensure that your business gets the best possible search engine ranking. This will eventually leads to increased sales for your online company.

So, what is exactly Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Search engine optimization is the process of amending the content and the meta-information (i.e. Meta-information includes certain HTML tags such as title, heading, emphasized text, keyword and description meta-tags, as well as the internal [links between pages on the same site] and external [links between pages on different sites] link structure of a web site). This is to improve the search engine ranking of the page.

What will be the sales impact if my website is being listed as one of the High Search Engine Rank? Do you know that Internet market research estimates that between 70% and 90% of online shoppers use search engines to find a specific product or service. As such, you can see how effective search engine optimization can boost your revenues.

There are a total of three metrics to forecast online sales. They are the average ticket, the conversion rate, and the amount of web site traffic. Lets me explain each of the metrics to you. The average ticket is the amount of money spent by a customer on a typical transaction. Typically, bookstores have low average tickets while on the other hand computer and electronics stores have high average tickets.

Web Site traffic is measured by the number of site visitors. It is normally expressed as the total number of page views per month.

Conversion rate is expressed as a percentage and was calculated through the number of sales divided by the number of page.

As such, achieving a high search engine rank will definitely increase the number of page views, and could therefore increase sales. Bear in mind that a high search engine rank will produce a measurable increase in traffic only if there is significant marketplace interest in your product / service. Note that search engine optimization is not going to help to produce measurable results if there is very little demand on your product or service. Lets us look into this way, the #1 spot in search engine result pages is not particularly impressive if only two people search for your product or service each month.

What is the role of keywords being used in the Search Engine Optimization?

Keywords are words or phrases users provide to search engines to locate information. Search engines examine page content to determine whether a specific page is relevant for a particular search word or phrase. Thus, effective keyword selection is one of the keystones of search engine optimization.

Each keyword is characterized by supply and demand. Supply refers to the number of search engine result pages and demand refers to the number of searches.

The easiest way to improve search engine rank is to select keywords that have favorable supply-demand characteristics; that is, ones with a relatively high demand and a relatively low supply. It is much more difficult to improve the search engine position of a page on a high supply, competitive keyword.

Good keywords should be relevant to your product line and your line of business. For example, a #1 rank for health supplement product is worthless if you sell Health equipment. A potential customer will find your page, quickly discover that you don't sell any Health supplement product, and promptly go elsewhere. In effect, the conversion rate for irrelevant search engine hits is very close to zero.

Choosing a set of target keywords is the first step in search engine optimization. The second step is using them in the body, title, headings, and meta-tags of a page.

Do not overdo it by including target keywords in the text of the page. The keywords should fit smoothly into the surrounding text. Search engines are smart enough to detect excessive keyword density, or too many keywords stuffed into very little supporting text. It will definitely reduce your page ranking accordingly.

The title tag should contain information that describes the page. Unless you operate a multi-national corporation that is already a household name, your company's name should not be a descriptive title. Most search engines use the title tag as the first line of your listing in the search engine result pages.

Incorporate keywords into the headings on the page, as well as into emphasized sections (bold or large text). Even though search engines are de-emphasizing descriptive meta-tags, include keywords in them nevertheless. The description meta-tag should have an accurate description of your page, and the keywords meta-tag should contain a set of keywords (separated by commas) that list key concepts mentioned on the page.

This will help you to understand the basics of search engine optimization and it is an important first step in creating an optimized, well-positioned web site.

Search Engine Optimisation Services Specialist Discusses What Is Search Engine Optimisation, Part 11

RSS feeds on a website are extremely powerful from a search engine optimisation point of view because they are always updating the website that they are placed on with new keyword rich content. This is what the search engine spiders like. This results in your website being ranked higher on the search engines. The power and use of RSS feeds is a very important search engine optimisation technique. There are many effective blogging systems on the internet and the majority of them are free to join.

Blogging is an essential and critical part of search engine optimisation which is a technique used to create unique content, every day, pointing to the website that you want to get onto the first page of the search engines. You can setup an RSS feed from the blog that you create as most blogs provide you with RSS feeds for your content, blog categories and an RSS feed for the whole blog. Use the RSS feeds by placing them on your websites.

This is important to you from an SEO perspective because it will ensure that you never have a static website. If your website remains static on the internet, you will be at a disadvantage right from the moment you place your website on the internet. A static website or a self replicated website, both are the same, where the members of that website's program do not now enough about search engine optimisation, will probably not create enough unique content or back links to that website.

So after a period of time the search engine spiders arrive and index your website, say every twenty six to thirty days. Every time the spiders index your website they will find that no change in content has been made. Making no content changes on a regular basis to your website, which includes the 'organic' back linking technique, is committing search engine optimisation suicide. The spiders will view that website as dead. Eventually those spiders will fly past that website and ignore it, as the content never changes. That search engine could also knock that website off the internet completely.

10 Easy Steps to Increase Google Search Engine Rankings

1) Implement Title Tags and Meta Tags

Title Tags are an important aspect of search engine optimization as they are the way to convey your marketing skills to your target audience. The wording should flow smoothly while containing important keywords. This is where the search engines and your target audience get a feel for what your website is about. You want to stress all the viral information in this limited area of space. This is your area for free advertising, so take full advantage of this. Put information like company name, and your targeted keywords that you have chosen for this page. Every page on your site should have unique title tags and meta tags.

2) Quality Content

Your content is very useful for the search engines in determining weather or not your website is relevant to your topic. You want quality, keyword rich content. You do not want to stuff your keywords, but place them sporadically throughout you site. Keyword stuffing is a black hat technique that will get you permanently banned from the search engines. Make sure that your content flows smoothly and rolls off the tongue easily. Remember humans, not search engines, have the ultimate decision to purchase your product or service. Write your content first for your audience and then add keywords where it makes sense to.

3) Acquire Quality Links

Links are a valuable tool for gaining top search engine rankings. Links (backlinks) are viewed as a vote from one site to another, so the more links to your site; the more popular the search engines think your site is. Higher quality links from authority websites are weighed more heavily when ranking your site. So you want to acquire links from reputable websites that are popular. You want to get links that are related to your line of work to increase rankings. Make sure all your links are related in one way or another to your website. If not then your site will be penalized in the rankings, which is the opposite of what we are trying to achieve.

4) Number of Backlinks

Recently, Google began to crack down on link farm sites (sites where you buy links) by penalizing them in the search engine rankings. Avoid link farms or buying links from non authority sites as they will only do more harm than good. Remember, it's not the quantity of links you have, but the quality of those links you do have. Make sure your links appear natural, not like they have been paid for. You must have something of quality to offer others so they will link to your site and increase your search engine rankings.

5) Keyword Relevant Domain Name

Before you purchase a domain name you should look for a URL that has relevant keywords to your company. You want to ensure that your domain name has some relevancy to your website. Your sub domains should not be long and full of strange characters and symbols. This will only confuse the search engines and your human visitors. The simple domain that has your keyword specific to your page is great for the search engines and human readers.

6) Use HTML

Search engine spiders have a hard time reading coding other than HTML. To avoid any confusion for the spider have your website written in HTML not Flash. If you are a large, well known company this does not play as big a role, but if you're a small company trying to make a name for yourself ensure that your programmer is using HTML.

7) Ease of Site Navigation

You want a website that is easy to navigate through. The more confusing and broken links to your site, the less likely it is that the spider will fully crawl and index all your pages. You want to submit a sitemap for Google so it can find and index all the pages in your website. Sitemaps are a necessity for websites getting all your pages indexed and included in the search engines.

8) Fresh, new content

Search engines do not want old, outdated content on their search results, so you must make sure to add new content to your site on a consistent basis. Both humans and spiders like to see new content on your website. Make sure to update your content to make sure it is up to date and relevant. You can make simple grammatical changes to your site or add pages, anything counts as new content. If you stop adding new content to your website then your rankings will start to slip and fall way below your desired results. If you see your rankings start to slip then make sure you add new content to your site.

9) Add a blog to your site

A blog is a great tool for keeping visitors up to date to with your site. Blogs help promote your site and give your visitors another way to locate your website. Blogs and your blog posts get indexed in the search engines quite quickly as well. Start a blog about the industry you are in and you can quickly build up your rankings. Blogs are especially useful for adding fresh content to your site. Blog posts are seen as new content, so post in your blog at least once a week to keep your content new. Blog postings do not have to be relevant to your website, but it does help to keep the content somewhat relevant to build up and authority blog.

10) Make your website for humans not spiders!

This is probably one of the biggest that is done by newcomers to internet marketing. They write and organize their website for the search engines to achieve high rankings, yet the traffic that comes in does not make a purchase. You want to have a website that is easy to read and comprehend, not a site that is made for the spiders to read. Ultimately, your site is viewed by humans who hold the purchasing power. Ensure that your website is easy to read and does not have any misspellings.

Help With Search Engine Optimization

A search engine is one of the main ways web users find websites and the main search engine is Google. A good listing on Google means you will have a large increase in traffic and that's when you can start looking at turning this traffic into sales.

Submitting to a search engine is easy but achieving high search engine ranking can be quiet difficult. High ranking is based on a number of factors but one of the most important is ensuring your pages are search engine optimized making them accessible to the search engines. So now lets look at

(1) What are Search Engines
(2) How do they work
(3) How the algorithm works
(4) Search engine tips

(1) What are Search Engines:

Search engines are Web sites that help you search the Internet for other Web sites based on keywords you provide e.g. the keyword is the word you type into the search box. These search engines then crawls the internet looking for websites with this keyword in it, returning a list of sites with the highest rankings. Search engines themselves are made up of a number of different parts Spider - crawls your website checking your links and the general standard and layout of your pages.

(2) How do they work:

Well as discussed above you type your keyword into the search and hit go or submit, the search engine then crawls the internet looking for websites with this keyword in it returning thousands of sites. The search might only display 10 or so of these sites because it has determined that these sites are the most relevant based on it's ranking system. Everybody wants to be in the top 10 because being in the next 10 could mean you loose visitor and more importantly potential customers - so let see how they work by looking at google.

Search engines are based on rankings, Google is typical example of this. After submitting your site too google the Google bot will visit your site rank it and then move to next sites. Every search engine uses its own unique formula, called an algorithm, to index and score web sites. Google employs a ranking algorithm to give your pages an overall ranking. In google you receive a ranking of between 1 and 10, where 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest rank. To view what your current ranking is download the google ranking toolbar - install it and you will see a page rank box at the top of your browser - if the green bar is halfway across you have a ranking of about 5 which is very good. http://toolbar.google.com/

(3) How the algorithm works

The google algorithm work by giving points based on certain factors such as

Links from other web pages to your site

What that means is the amount of links listed on other sites that link to your site! The more sites that link to you, the greater your popularity! The key to this is to do as many link exchanges as possible. A link exchange is basically you provide a link to a website and they link to you - be sure that the site that's linking to you is relative to what you are providing on the site. Try to add as many of these as possible, the more links the higher the ranking.

Meta Tags:

META tags are special HTML tags, located in the heading of the page, giving additional information about the page. They are intended for search engines. The description tag is used to give a description of your site which will be displayed in the search results. The keywords tag contains a list of keywords, separate either by commas or by spaces, these are highly relevant because these same keyword are used by web users to search these search engines. These tags and other factors dictate your sites placement in the search engines. Good meta tags contain words that describe your website. The google Robots scans the text on your pages to match the words in the meta tags with actual web page content. They set parameter and your content must fall within this to get increased points from the googlebot.

HTML Titles:

Search engines assign greater importance to text in certain locations on your page. One of the most important locations is your page title (the one that appears at the top of your browser) Learningsteps.com Interactive training. So having a relevant title is very important. Search engines will also check to see if a key phrase appears near the top of the page, in its headline or in the first few lines of text e.g. in the body. So add your title to the body make sure its in bold. Search engines consider how often a particular phrase appears relative to the other words on the page, so try and re-use your keywords.

(4)Search engine tips:

(1) Join as many relevant link exchanges as possible - the more links to your site the higher your ranking. I shall be adding a link exchange program shortly.

(2) The title tag on your page should be relevant and re-used throughout the page - search engines check importance of keywords.

(3) Use relevant keyword again re-use these in the page and make them bold.

(4) Constantly add more content - the google bot loves that content is being updated and added.

(5) Spelling: yes incorrect spelling can result in pages not being found or lost.

(6) Page size: ensure your page size is small especially your main page as web visitors will not wait more than 10 seconds.

Hope this page helps - I will add more information as i go along - achieving high ranking is an ongoing battle.

Article Marketing Success In 10 Minutes

Did you know that in just 10 minutes, you can become a successful article marketer? It's true! In just 10 minutes your marketing can become a success! It's not hard to do, but people seem to make it harder. They tend to make it more complicated than it actually is. Article marketing is about marketing articles. The more you write, the better. The more articles you write, the more successful you will become.

In order to become successful as a marketer, you must first understand one thing. Your not trying to create a work of art. That's it. If you just remember that little piece of information, you can become successful at this marketing tactic. Your not trying to create a work of art. No one wants to read a novel in their spare time! That's why they're on the internet! They want the information that they want fast. They don't want all this sophisticated jargon that they can't understand. They don't want a story line. Your readers just want information. And it's your job to give it to them.

To be successful at marketing in 10 minutes, you just have to write a good enough article. Not a perfect article. Just a good article. If we were to use the school's grading system as an analogy, you should be trying to write a C grade article, not an A grade article. The more you aim at being a C, the better your article will actually become.

When you try to write a C article, it will only take about 6 minutes. Just 6 minutes! That's an article that will be working for you to get traffic to your website made in 6 minutes! You don't need to write a rough draft and a brainstorm to get traffic to your website. Your rough draft will do just fine! Your not trying to give your readers a work of art! That's not meant for article writing!

Learn Search Engine Marketing - Inbound Links

When you look at search engine optimization for your website, keep in mind that search engine robots look at how your pages are linked together and how your site is linked to other sites. When you place a link on your site, this is an OUTBOUND LINK; the site of the link benefits.

INBOUND LINKS is what the search engine robots look for; you want sites of related content and high traffic to place a link to your site on their site.

The fastest way to accomplish this is to write informative articles that link back to your site and have them published on other websites. The signature line in your forum posts that include your website address create links to your site as well as directory listings.

The more pages of VALUABLE CONTENT you have on your site, the more inbound links you can have pointing to your site. The exception to this is "Free For All" (FFA) pages which are also called "Link Farms" which can have the opposite effect and get you banned from search engines.

Find out who is linking to your site by using the three advance search commands:

link:www.yourdomain.com

inurl:yourdomain

allinurl:yourdomain

There are several Link Popularity Checker online; the Webmaster Toolkit and Marketleap has two of the most reliable.

Search engine optimization is a combination of four major factors, your keywords, your keyword optimized content, submissions to search engines and inbound links. Each one of these factors are important and together as a unit they can give you good search engine rank.

Why Article Marketing Works so Well For Creating Profits Online

So many people look at article marketing as just a traffic source. And it is a traffic source. But it is so much more. You see, with most traffic sources, the impact of the traffic source ends once the traffic is delivered.

But with article marketing, the traffic source continues creating credibility long after the initial traffic is delivered.

In my case, with 1000's of live articles online, someone may join my list, and later decide they want more information about something online, then they go to read some of my other articles. The advantage to this is increased credibility, and that helps me generate more sales in the long run, as my subscribers continue to look to me for advice, knowing they can get it either directly from me or by reading more of my articles online.

This creates long term credibility online, which of course is what I am looking for.

Also, with article marketing, once I publish an article, I may get several visitors from that article the first month, much as any other traffic source would provide. But I will also get traffic the second month and the 3rd month and so on. I continue to get traffic from articles I submitted over a year ago - which means I am getting much more traffic than if I had paid for traffic one time up front.

These are just two of the reasons I favor article marketing over other traffic sources.

The bottom line is that article marketing is good for so much more than just traffic, but it helps me to build long term relationships online, hence increasing long term visitor value and profits.

Article Marketing - Three Tips to Using Articles to Promote Your Online Business

If you've started an online business, you know that you need to promote consistently to get traffic and sales. Although there are many ways you can promote, article marketing delivers great, on-going results at minimal cost. In this article we'll look at the top three tips for using articles to market your business.

Here they are:

1. Post articles on article directories

Not familiar with article marketing? Marketing using articles means offering free information as a form of advertising. Not only will your business become more widely known, it will also gain respect and credibility.

Article marketing is a form of advertising, but it's much more effective than advertising, because when you stop paying for an ad, you lose traffic. Your articles stay online, and will bring traffic to your Web site for years.

Once you've written an article, post it to article directories online. You can choose a general directory, or one which is more targeted to your audience.

Over time, your articles will spread across the Web, bringing a flow of traffic. You won't see the full effects of your article publishing push for months, so it's important that when you start article marketing, you keep creating and publishing them - their effect on your site's traffic is cumulative.

2. Post articles to your own Web sites and blogs

In addition to posting articles on article directories, post them to your site as well. This increases your site's content, and will boost your site in the search engine rankings.

Before you start publishing your articles to your site, create a structure, so that your articles form a real resource for your site's visitors. Although you'll still get traffic if you just dump all your articles into an "Articles" directory, you'll get better results if you think about leading your site's visitors around your site to make a purchase or take other action when they arrive at one of your articles.

After you've published an article on your site, don't move it elsewhere on your site unless it's absolutely necessary, because if you do, you'll break links which other sites have created to reference specific articles.

3. Post article collections to sites like Squidoo and Scribd

The more backlinks (links pointing to your site) the better. There are many ways you can get more backlinks. One of the easiest ways is to post your articles on sites like Squidoo and Scribd.

Squidoo allows you to create "lenses", one-page topic sites. Create several lenses on topics relevant to your site, and post article collections to these lenses, pointing back to your site. Not only are your lenses a source of backlinks, they're also a source of traffic.

Squidoo is very popular; you can build a real community there, providing further support to your site.

The Scribd site lets you put documents online, and make them public. Think of Scribd as YouTube for documents. Collect your articles into collections, and post them to Scribd. You can post your articles in a variety of formats: text, HTML, Adobe PDF, and more.

As with Squidoo, you can build a community at Scribd when people make your documents favorites. Scribd will bring your site traffic, and will increase your backlinks too.
