Article Marketing - How You Can Massively Increase the Effectiveness of Your Articles

Article Marketing is something that thousands of people do to drive traffic to their websites. It's no secret that a well written article can be thought provoking enough for readers to want to know more about either you or your services. So, what do they do? They click on your link in your resource box. But are you making effective use of understanding the conversion rates for the clicks that you get?

From my own perspective, my main interests are in motivation, wealth creation and self defense. These are the subjects that I write about most often. However, I am departing from that here because I have discovered something that I think will be of benefit to all article writers.

I don't write about things like "the best sexual positions" or "cell phone number spying" or "how to increase your penis size" or "how to shave your pubic hair" or "how to tell if your spouse is cheating on you" or any other such subjects that get tens of thousands of hits. Why? Quite simply I don't have a website on any of those things that could take advantage of the traffic it would bring.

Now here is something that you will probably find interesting...

I have over 250 articles all over the web in hundreds of "far-flung" places and in many different languages. This number of articles will show significant trends when viewed in terms of statistical anaysis.

I know which articles are "ball-bursters" and which are complete flops. So, what does that tell me? Write more articles (in my domains of knowledge and interest) that are popular - obviously! What is the point of writing articles that nobody else wants to read? Now here comes the interesting bit...

By analyzing the results of these articles I am able to see which ones are giving me the most click-throughs to my websites. Time for a little mathematics...

If I have 1,395 click-throughs from 170,424 views of my articles then my conversion rate is 0.82%. That tells me that for every thousand people who read my articles only 8 will be interested enough to go to one of my websites. Pretty horrendous huh? Then again, there are millions of articles on the web and people's time is at a premium. A reader has to be REALLY interested to make that click.

So, if I have some articles - which I do - that are returning the following statistics, what does that tell me?

  • 8 from 23 ( conversion rate 34.8%)
  • 400 from 2,667 (15%)
  • 28 from 154 (18%)
  • 191 from 1736 (11%)
  • 23 from 81 (28%)
That tells me that these particular articles SMASH my average. Hmm. So, what else does that tell me? Here is what I think...

  1. - The headline REALLY worked because it attracted attention
  2. - The article summary/teaser REALLY worked because it made people curious
  3. - The copy (article body) REALLY worked because it contained good information
  4. - The resource box REALLY worked because people wanted to know more.

So, now, what do you think I should do?

  1. - Write more headlines like that
  2. - Write more summaries/teasers like that
  3. - Write more articles like that
  4. - Write more resource boxes like that

The other thing - which I have not yet analysed in depth - is that the keywords REALLY worked. I need to look at that more.

So what is my point is this?

Watch what your statistics are telling you. Once you get the "formula" correct then all it requires is for you to stick with it and you will see a LOT more click-throughs to your websites than you thought was possible. I may have more to say on this later. Stay tuned...

- Create an eye-catching title. It is a proven fact that the title of your article is what makes it sell. There are so many webmasters simply wasting their time by creating a quality article only for it to sit in place and collect dust because of poor title writing. I find that using your keyword in the first three words of the title provides the best results.

- Take time when creating the signature block because this is the time to sell yourself and your product. Second to poor title creation, poor signature block writing is sure to point your viewers in other directions. When you write the signature block do not just place your name and the URL to your web site. You need to convince your viewers that they need to click on that link or they are missing out on something big.

- Now that you have created an eye-catching article with a signature block that tells your viewers they better click or they will miss out; you need to find places to submit it to. Many people believe that mass distribution is the way to go. What they do not know is that laziness does not pay off. Search engines do not like to find the same content over hundreds of sites; most being low ranking. What they do like to find is the same content on five or six high quality sites. This says that the content is worthy of high search engine placement. Find the top five or six article directories and submit to them only.

3 Titanic List-Building Techniques

At times, attracting subscribers to your list can seem as challenging as finding a pool of water in the desert.

Having built several lists over the last year in different niche markets - all highly responsive, some in the high tens of thousands, its time to focus in on 3 of the most productive list building techniques.

Before I list them, the other factor in making money from your list though is relevance and responsiveness. You can have a list of 100,000 and it can still be worth less to you than a list of 10,000 based on relevance and responsiveness.

At the end of the day, its your revenue per subscriber that is critical to your business - not just the size of the list.

3 Titantic List Building Techniques

1. Writing articles. Trick here is to spend 90% of your time on the article title (effectively your headline) and toward writing compelling articles consistently. Send them out to publishers and directories - but always build a strong publisher base which you can go back to again and again. Some of my better articles have been picked up by hundreds of ezines, and have been seen by millions of eyeballs resulting in very strong traffic and list signups.

Case in point, my article titled "How To Make Pay-Per-Click Advertising Payoff!" over at: http://www.highertrustmarketing.com/articles/ppcpayoff.html has been run by hundreds of online and offline magazines with total subscriptions into the millions.

Learn to write articles that attract attention is the single best way to rapidly build your own responsive list.

2. Use a capture page, often called Namesqueeze for first-time traffic. Rather than sending traffic right to your sales page, send them to a capture page first and target the page well to your market. For example: http://www.infoproductcreator.com/ebook/ is such a page. Conversion is well over 40% on most days, so as you can see, any substantial traffic will result in very strong list building numbers.

3. Joint ventures: You should be seeking out at least 2 new joint ventures each month - some of these can instantly result in 100's - if not 1000's of signups. Long term joint ventures can also be repeated for months and months. Think in terms of joint mailings, interviews, viral ebooks, articles, special reports, etc... to use as tools to make joint ventures successful.

Finally - if I had to list a fourth, of course your own affiliate program would be the fourth. Takes a little longer to build momentum, but when you do - its like placing your list building on auto-pilot.
