Did you know that article marketing has been used way before the internet was discovered? Years back, businessmen who are looking for great deals in advertising their products and services used to trade their articles with newspaper for free ad space. Since newspaper owners did not need to pay their contributors, the arrangement worked for all parties involved. This is the same concept that made article marketing an instant hit. Webmasters do not have to shell out money to cover their advertising costs but still get the exposure they need by banking on their writing skills. Here are the 4 fast secrets to make money with article marketing:

1. Make your articles informative. When online users read your articles, they expect that they will get something from it and that is information. To satisfy your readers' needs, make sure that the information you provide are highly relevant to their pressing issues and are timely.

2. Focus on the quality of your articles. Sometimes, even if you offer the juiciest and most sought-after information, if you are unable to present them in a logical, easy to understand manner, you will not get the nod of online users. To prevent this from happening, make sure that your articles are well-written and flow naturally. Your sentences must be well-constructed and they must be coherent to avoid confusion among your readers.

3. Stick to your writing style. If half of your articles are upbeat and the other half sound very stiff, you maybe projecting two different personalities and this might confuse your readers. Master the best writing style that works for you, stick to it, and be known for it.

4. Proofread before you submit your articles. Before distributing your articles to various publishing sites, make sure that they do not contain errors that can affect your credibility.

SEO or search engine optimization is considered as the most important tool in the hands of webmasters to get high page ranking on various search engines for their respective websites and here comes the role of meta tags that play a vital part in the search engine optimization. The essential meta tags in a website content would include but not limited to the following:

A title tag is one that indicates to the search engine about the particulars of a site or what the website pertains to. This title tag would enable the search engine spiders to categorize your respective websites and also would help divert traffic that would pertain to the specific title tag of your website. It should be therefore remembered that keywords of highly important in nature should definitely be included in the title tag.

Explanation or description meta tags are also important but they do not have direct impact on your website PR. These tags are used by search engines to describe or explain about your web page. Description tags are a must for all of the web pages of your website. It is not necessary that these description or explanation tags contain specific keywords but an interesting page description tag will attract a visitor to go ahead and click on the website link.

Next come the keywords meta tags which have key role in generating web traffic to your site. The keywords tag also should have the important keywords pertaining to your website.

However, remember that it is the title tag that is seen by a searcher. The keyword tag is a means to tell information to the search engine spiders. The meta tags suggest information pertaining to the content of the website to the search engine spiders. The web pages are therefore given a rank depending on the information given to the search engines in the form of the meta tags.

It is very essential to give importance to the meta tags and let them be written well because they are very crucial to tell whether your SEO efforts will be successful or not.

Write appropriate meta tags for your website pages and notice the difference they can bring about in diverting web traffic to your site. The right use of these can complement your SEO efforts.

The internet stores a massive amount of information and much of that is in text. To find quality content to return for search queries the search engines look for sites with test content and the more the better.

If you have ever wondered why your website is not receiving any traffic, you are probably looking for a way to increase it. Most webmasters on the internet are because they realize that traffic is what will make their site a success.

You should consider taking a two pronged approach to building links. The first method for building links is through submissions of your site to quality webs directories. Every link you get to your site is not only a vote in popularity, but also a doorway for traffic. Every quality link you can get through directory submissions will bring more relevance to your site.

How you can use article marketing.

The first way you can use article marketing is by going to article directories. If you can't write your own unique content (which is preferred) for your site, you can use the content from article directories to place on your site for content as long as you retain the authors resource box. You need the content there for the search engines to spider when they visit through all the linking pathways you created when submitting your site to quality web directories.

As we covered the internet contains a massive amount of information and people search for it every day. The more links you have pointing to your site and the more content you have on it relevant to your sites niche, the better you will rank for search engine queries.

Another way to use article marketing is by writing your own unique articles on topics related to your websites niche and submit them for publication to the best article directories. These articles will create some links to your website to increase its popularity and with each link comes another doorway for traffic to find you.

When you write and publish these articles, you are also letting the public know you have expertise and knowledge on the subject. To get the reader's attention, give them a quality, well written article filled with information.

Build links through quality directory submissions to increase your sites popularity and create doorways to traffic and search engines. Then use article marketing to provide quality on site content for the search engines to spider when they arrive. The more quality web directories you submit your site to, the more articles content you provide on your site and the more articles you submit for publication on article directories, the more search engines will love your site.

These are some of the key elements to creating traffic and building a successful website. You can have the best website on the internet, but without proper promotion your visitors will never find you. If they do not find you, they cannot use the services that you provide.

Now it is time to get started.

Viral marketing is a methods of list building

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

The use of appropriate key words is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization. Selecting and targeting pertinent key words and phrases is crucial for building web traffic and getting the audience you want for your web pages. Like any other type of advertisement, your key words must be carefully chosen to ensure that you achieve both high page rankings and relevant traffic. Achieving high page ranks is useless if the traffic it brings you is not the right audience. For this reason, many experts believe that the target key word list used for a site can mean either success or failure for a web site or online business.

It is no longer enough to simply choose a relevant domain name for an online business or web site. Choosing the right key words for the site is now equally if not more important. The majority of people who visit a site get there by using a search engine. They will type in two or three words that describe what they're looking for, scan the resulting list generated and pick one that seems relevant until they get the answer or product they need. This is where target key words are utilized. Key words are what enable people to find your site; choosing the right key words for your site will ensure the right people find you.

With this in mind, identifying your target audience is the first step in creating relevant key words and phrases. Again, this is not dissimilar to targeting television advertisements. Consider location when you are developing your target market. For example, if you own a used car dealership in Hayward, California, any traffic you get from outside a very specific area is virtually useless to you. Similarly, if you operate an online business that does not ship outside the USA, generating traffic from other countries will not help you make sales. By adding key words that are specific to your location as well as your product, you will better hone into your target audience, improve your rankings, and achieve a better conversion rate, which will help increase your site's page ranking, in turn.

Keyword competition should also be taken into consideration when developing a site's key word list. Going back to the used car dealership example, let's say a potential customer types in the word "cars" into a search engine. They'll never find what they need, because it's far too general-generating around 500,000,000 different sites to choose from. Typing in "used cars" generates almost 70,000,000. That's still too many to deal with effectively. Using "used cars Hayward" generates almost 900,000 hits, and narrowing the focus even further by using the zip code rather than the city name reduces it to less than 25,000.

Choosing key words for your web site works the same way. If your key words are too general, your target audience will never find your site, because the search terms generate so many web sites that it is impossible to look through them all. However, if you go too far in the opposite direction and use too many key words, or key words which are too specific, you risk losing business as well. The best key word phrases are no more than three words in length.

So how do you choose the right key words? The first step is brainstorming with colleagues, friends or an SEO professional, to come up with a list of 20 or more appropriate key words. The Google Keyword Tool is an excellent place to research key words. By entering key words into this tool it will give you an idea of the popularity of certain words and offers you alternative key words and phrases.

Once you have a good list of terms, you may want to refine it to call out the strongest terms that have the best potential for sales or traffic conversion. There are several good online research tools available, which can help you decide which words will be most effective for you. Some good examples are WordTracker and Keyword Discovery. These sites may charge a fee for using their database. After reviewing the terms, eliminate the key words that rank poorly or are very unpopular, then prioritize the remaining terms according to search popularity. These terms will become the keywords you will want to focus your initial SEO campaign on.

Always remember that when it comes to key words, you are focusing on optimizing your traffic rather than maximizing it. Setting up the right keyword list for optimization is the cornerstone to a successful web site.

Search engines use a number of criteria for ranking websites. No one can say exactly how the search engines weigh their criteria, since the search engines protect this information as a trade secret. But SEO experts are able to give us a reliable picture of what we need to do to get the highest visibility in Internet search engines.

The three keys to search engine ranking are content, keywords, and back links. Ultimately, a high ranking in search engines is the result of high traffic. How do you drive more traffic to your small business website? Content, keywords, and back links.

The content of your website must be chosen carefully and with plenty of research. A lot of websites look pretty with flash designs, detailed artwork and pictures. If you have a small business, then concentrate on that with your website. You are not trying to impress prospective clients with all of your fancy technology on your website. Use your website to find leads, entice customers, and make long lasting relationships.

Content, meaning the text and descriptions of your business and your services, should be chosen carefully. You can choose the right content by doing keyword research and using many keywords in your web pages filled with facts, portfolios of your work, and newsworthy information.

Don't try to trick them! A small business website with 50 pages of hot air won't fool the Internet community. Keyword-stuffing will only work temporarily. When visitors find nothing but fluff on a website, they won't go back and they won't create word of mouth in their own blogs and websites. When your traffic drops, the search engines find out in a hurry and the bottom falls out of your ranking.

What are backlinks? Back links are backward links. Basically they are links that point back to your website, blog, etc. They are somewhat like trail markers that you can leave, pointing passersby to take the path toward your homebase.

How are they created? Back links are created whenever someone has a link for your website on their website. The easiest way to make back links is by submitting your web content to article directories, websites, and blogs.

For instance, if you post an article on About.com, the smart thing to do is fill the article with links back to your website. Sometimes websites have restrictions on how many links you can have in your article, so a link to your website in your bio or signature is good as well. The search engines find this "back link" to your site on another web site, which tells them that your article is popular.

Successful backlinking is like a word of mouth popularity game. Whomever has the most links pointing to their site helps determine who gets the best ranking on the Search Engines. Also, a back link is better than a reciprocal link because if someone links to you, but you don't link back to them, it's like you're cooler than they are. Reciprocal linking is still a valuable tool to be utilized smartly, but back linking will bring you the most juice. The more back links you have, the more popular you are with search engines, and the higher you rank. Literally.

Article submission is widely recognized as one of the most effective strategies for optimizing search engine ranking. Creating plenty of back links with quality content is the single best strategy for driving traffic to your Small Business website and boosting your search engine ranking. In order to get more people to hit those links is to write articles and post newsworthy, keyword rich postings. Research which keywords people might search for to find your business, and use them in your articles. This will ensure that people who could be interested in your business' services will find you.

Always remember the first principle of search engine optimization: Rich content is the single most important determinant of search engine ranking. Write high-quality web content and blog posts, submit your content to article directories, and the search engine rankings will come.

In order to keep bringing search engines and traffic your way, your website needs to boast good content. But that doesn't mean you have to sit down for hours on end to write great articles for your web pages. Instead, try some of these popular content generating techniques and strategies.

Content Generation

  1. Hire ghostwriters to help with your articles and blog posts. You can look for ghosts in your subject area by searching forums and asking for recommendations. And you can head to online bid sites like Elance.com, post content creation projects to gather bids and then choose some and give the writers a try.
  2. Invite your website visitors to contribute. Place a note on your site that says something like, "Send in your articles (with your byline and link inside) and we'll post them here for our readers, too!"
  3. You can also set up a blog or forum (or both) and invite guests to post comments, their own articles and other contribution. You can also offer file sharing, setting up an area where people can upload digital photos or videos, for instance, and share favorites.
  4. Search online article directories for lots of informative pieces in any number of targeted subject areas. Popular places like GoArticles.com and IdeaMarketers.com allow you to publish their content as long as you keep the resource boxes in tact, generally linking to the writers' websites.
  5. Search for private label rights (PLR) content on the web. Many places sell content like this with rights where you can go in, edit the articles a little to make them unique (or use "as is" sometimes, too. Add photos, quotes, graphics, video, audio...whatever you like...and use immediately.
Brainstorm for even more ways to get good content. And keep a folder going with all of them printed out for handy reference.

Content Tips

Whichever forms of content creation you use, keep in mind the following.

  • You need to offer quality content to your visitors. Don't offer articles full of spelling and grammar errors. And don't offer junk: sales pieces, articles full of erroneous information or useless prattle.
  • Feature a couple main keywords in each article, post or other form of content.
  • Keep a content log going so you know when to update your site. You want to keep fresh content on there; don't let the site go stale.
Attract search engines and people to your website - and hopefully keep them there for awhile. And watch your business grow!

Article marketing is a great off-page SEO solution that can help you build quality inbound links for your website without the need to resort to link building campaigns. You just need to write and distribute your articles online to impart your knowledge, gain the trust of your potential clients, and drive them to your website.

Here are the 4 great methods to improve your article marketing:

1. Supercharge your titles. This is the first element that online users will see online. Thus, you need to create a strong impression to compel them to open and read your articles. Make your headlines short, direct to the point, and descriptive of what your article is all about. Employ emotion, logic, exaggeration, and anything that will push your potential clients' buttons. Remember, to be successful in this marketing technique, you need to be desperate for attention.

2. Power up your author's bio. Introduce yourself to online users by giving them sneak peak on what you do, your hobbies, and your willingness to help. Avoid making your short biography a blatant advertisement and just make it personal. This is your first step in building rapport with your readers so they will learn to trust you eventually. Don't forget to include your most friendly-looking picture to make your bio more interesting and visually appealing.

3. Do keyword analysis. Know what keywords are ranking better on search engines and use them on your content. By doing so, you will make your articles highly searchable online.

4. Carefully choose your topics. If you don't know where to get great topic ideas, I highly recommend forums and article submission sites. These can give you great insights on what your potential clients might be looking for on your articles. Just stick to those topics that are relevant to your products so you can attract qualified traffic to your website.

When you have a website that you are using for a business it is important for that site to be found within the search engines. It can be difficult to compete with so many other websites on the internet so optimizing your website in order for it to get brought to the top of the search results is a necessity. You may be wondering how, exactly, does that task get accomplished. It does not have to be complicated, but knowing a little bit of html is required.

When viewing the html code of your website it looks like a bunch of mumbo jumbo at first, but when you learn what the different symbols stand for it makes it a lot easier. All the tags start with

<tag> and end with </tag> So, for the title of your website it would look like this <title>Title Goes Here</title> When choosing your title you want it to have the keywords you want to optimize your website for. Choose keywords that are longer and not too competitive.

You can use tools like Overture or Word Tracker to choose your keywords. These tools will tell you how competitive your chosen keywords are and how many times they are searched for each month. Take the keywords you chose and place them in the title, h1, h2, alt, and meta keyword tags. Sprinkle those keywords throughout the body of your website making sure they are at the beginning and end.

Try to keep the menu on the right side of the page. Search engines read a website from the right down, center down then left down. You want the majority of your keywords in the body of the website not the menu, Keep the density of your keywords between 2%-6% for maximum benefit. You can check this with a keyword density tool on the web. Just do a search and it will come up.

The alt attributes are within the image tag. When you put a keyword within these attributes it will show on the webpage when the cursor is hovering over that image. Using your keywords in some of the text links on your website will also help the optimization of your website.

Some basic html knowledge is needed when optimizing a website but there are plenty of places on the internet where you can learn the basics. Doing the things described in this article will give you the best chance of getting to the top of the search engines. This helps bring targeted visitors to your website and eventually sales for your business.

When you get the hang of all this you can add other keywords to your site and start ranking high in the search engines for those terms as well. It takes time to learn and it takes time to rank highly for your chosen keywords but it is possible to do without having to be too difficult.

Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills. With modern communication technology comes the popularity of information-based marketing, which is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in getting targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers. This is

To maximize the income you make from your Internet business, keep good records. I save each article I write in a file I call Published. I save the resource box, summary, and keywords along with the body of each article I write. Once per quarter, I transfer these files onto a CD.

On the larger article submission sites, you can determine your page views, URL clicks, and published ezines. This is extremely useful information. With it, you can determine which articles were the most popular with the public. You can also conclude which resource boxes worked the best. This information is critical. After all, the number of URL clicks is the primary reason that most people write articles.

The other necessary component is a good stat counter on your site. Make sure it is embedded on every page of your site. There are a number of important facts that you can discover from a good stat counter:

1) How many people visit your site?

This, of course, is particularly important. If no one is visiting your site, you may as well close it down. A lack of traffic can tell you a lot; maybe your content is lacking or perhaps your ads and resource boxes are not compelling. In any case, a lack of, or decline in traffic is a sign that there is a problem.

2) Where do your visitors come from?

Do they come from your ads or your article submission sites? If so, which ones do they come from? If you havent had a visitor from a submission site (or ad) in several weeks, stop submitting to them. Find a site (or ad) with a bigger or more responsive audience.

3) Which search terms were used to find your site?

This can be particular telling. If a large number of your visitors find your site by using the same search term, provide more content in that targeted area. This will attract additional like-minded visitors.

4) Which pages were visited on your site?

If certain pages on your site are ignored by your visitors, replace them with fresh content. Or, replace the content on the 3 or 4 pages with lowest number of visits. This will prevent your site from getting stale and may attract more traffic.

A good stat counter can provide you with these, and many more statistics. From this data you will know what appealed to your viewers and can use this information to be more successful in the future. It can also help you decide which topics to focus on for future articles, ads, and resource boxes.

Search engine optimization
Search engine optimization is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic of a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. Search engine optimization can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Design
All content including links, headers, alternative image text, alternative frame text and content text on a well designed website is viewable to the user and, more importantly, in terms of Search engine optimization, the web crawler.

User Friendliness
Everything the viewer wants to know on your site should be no more than three clicks away (important information like contact info should always be one click away). In terms of Search engine optimization , a web crawler can only see the pages on your site that are directly linked, so a well optimized site will have text links as well as any graphical links such as flash or java script.

Content
As well as the body content of your site, a web crawler will also look at the page title, page description, keywords, and file name. It will make its judgments on how to list your site based on these factors. A well-optimized site will have a page title that briefly describes the content, a description tag that will describe the content in more detail, keyword tags that will pull select keywords and key terms from the content, a file name that reflects the page title and content that is clear and relevant to the user and the web crawler.

More about Content
The biggest mistake most people/companies make when optimizing a site is overdoing it, i.e., repeating keywords, duplicating image tags, flooding the backend with descriptive code and trying to fit as many keywords/terms into the meta tabs as possible. Not only is this a messy practice but it can also get your site penalized and may be dropped from searches altogether. When building/optimizing a site, the first person you should be thinking of is the user and not the web crawler. Not only will this be better for your Search engine optimization efforts, it will also be a better experience for your potential customer.

In a simple answer: Yes, it is the real deal.

Bum Marketing takes more than a little effort, it takes quite a bit of effort and it takes a little knowledge in Writing Articles and Search Engine Optimization. In the shortest Bum Marketing Tutorial ever, I'm going to attempt to break down this process for you, so that you can better understand "BMM".

Bum Marketing is very similar to Article Marketing, in which you need to write articles (duh!) and submit them to places such as EzineArticles.com based on a set of Keywords with little competition. Take, for example, "Blue Widgets". Let's say that we joined an Affiliate Program for Blue Widgets and we want to promote this product.

If you were to type "Blue Widgets" (with quotes around the term) into Google - you would see the number of results given back. These numbers (results) are actually "competition". These are your competitors that you need to beat. When I say "beat", I'm talking about getting to the top of the results for this keyword (Blue Widgets).

You want to get the top results so that when a user searches for the term Blue Widgets, they visit YOUR website. Once they visit your website/blog/article - there is a good chance that they will follow the link you want them to follow (ie, Affiliate Link to make the purchase) to get the results you're looking for.

For Keyword research, we can use a free tool such as the Google Keyword Tool, or even a paid tool such as NicheBot

OK, so we've got the gist of it all, right? Alright, let's continue.

So here's the plan:

1) Find a product you want to promote (Green Widgets)

2) Find a search term you want users to type into the search engines (keyword research - NicheBot?) ... let's say it's "Green Widget Review".

3) Create an Article based on the term "Green Widget Review" (honest review is what really works!)

4) Use the term "Green Widget Review" as the Title of the Article -- and then use it somewhere near the top of the Article, but use it for readers - don't make it look and feel spammy

5) Make the Article at least 500 Words Minimum and try to include some other Keywords that are related to the Product for extra searches. (Blue Widgets, Red Widgets, etc)

6) Submit the Article - but be sure to include a link to your Website/Landing Page/Blog at the bottom of the article in the Author SIG - Resource box.

7) Be sure that your landing page is ready for these articles. Have more information related to the product, a better review, a purchase page, etc.

8) You can also just link straight to the Merchants page if you use a site like Squidoo.com

9) Rinse and repeat, but use a totally different article for another Article Directory)

Sites such as Squidoo.com and HubPages.com are also great resources to build review or comparison sites or even Informational sites for the Affiliate product. These sites, including EzineArticles.com, get a ton of traffic - but they also get GREAT Search Engine Results!

I hope you've learned a little about Bum Marketing, and I hope you continue your Learning experience on the subject!
