Self-Discipline

Online or offline, if you want to be successful in your own business, you must be self disciplined. You have to create your own workable routine because there are no strong external influences telling you when to start work and evaluating your productivity. It's easy to procrastinate when you are working at home. Talking on the phone, coffee with a friend or even a favorite television show can all keep you from getting down to the business of making money.

Who is this person? Can you google him/her and find multiple sites? Can you find hundreds or thousands of articles written by the same author? Does he or she have multiple websites with similar proof, products? Are they running a blog or newsletter? This is usually a good indication that the person is serious in the biz and it increases credibility.

Another part of credibility is testimonials. Does the website you are visiting have solid testimonials from solid resources? Are they credible? Do they show Images? Audio? Or even video testimonials? If at least one or two of these are "true" then it is good indicator of a proven product, backed by a proven crowd.

Tip 4 out of 5: Overall Design

Landing on a site with a professional looking header graphic, well placed and formated text, with images of people, products and covers it's almost always a legit product. People who spend money or time creating these things are more likely to make sales and therefore they spend money to make money. If the website feels like it's designed by your kid at the age of 4 then it's probably NOT a site you want to commit to.

Tip 5 out of 5: Other people are recommending the product.

If you go to Google and type "product name review" or "product name testimonial" you'll find multiple people who have reviewed the product as affiliates. If this comes up and there are review you'll instantly know it's a legit business owner who has gone great lengths to accumulate both affiliate marketers and Joint Venture partners to their team.

Keywords on your webpage is not good to have more than what you need. If you have more than what the search engine likes, it become a spam webpage for them. They will penalize you for doing that, you might as well be booted off their search engine. There are many web pages out there that will help you calculate the percentage of keywords you have. The percentage you need is 2.7 or lower. No need to go above into the 7% even though there are search engines out there won't penalize you for it. You want your website to be on the top search engines, not the lower ones. Even if the lower search engines bring you traffic, top 4 search engines bring you more. So keep out from being penalized.

The third thing is one way links. You should have one way links all the time because search engines are starting to penalize people for exchanging links. Meaning if you are on the top rank of the search engine and you have plenty of lower links on your site. Your rank may be pulled down from doing that. If you exchange links, be sure the link exchange partner and you have the same topic on your webpage.

I get a lot of questions from my subscribers asking how to write articles. If my subscribers are asking about it, I assume that many others also want information on writing articles. Following is a basic outline on how to get started writing articles and getting them published on the Internet.

You do not need to be the next Stephen King to write articles. Most authors are people just like you and me. Write in a simple, easy to understand tone. Write it as though you are talking to a friend. An informal article written in a conversational manner is best.

Start out by writing on subjects you are familiar with. After you gain some writing experience, you can begin to research and write about topics you are not familiar with. Try to keep the length of your articles between 300 and 500 words.

One of the main components of your article is the title. Spend some time developing a good title that attracts readers. Your title is the advertising for your article. In most cases, your article will be listed along with many others. People normally scan through the article titles to decide which one interests them. If your article contains a compelling title, it will attract more readers. If your title is dull and uninteresting, few people will read your article.

Start your article with a good introduction. Tell the reader why you are writing the article and why how they might benefit by reading it.

After the introduction, start a new paragraph and begin the body of your article. Separate it into different paragraphs for each point you want to cover. By using a number of paragraphs, it is easier on the eyes and makes for a more attractive presentation. The body of your article should provide between three and ten points that you want to cover. Don't think that you have to include everything you know about the subject. Remember, you want you article to contain 300 to 500 words. Stay within those limits.

Finish the article with a solid conclusion. Recap what you told the reader and mention how they will benefit by using the information you provided.

After you've completed the article, use a good spelling and grammar checker on your work. Most word processors today include these tools so make sure you use them. If your article is riddled with errors, many publishers will not accept it. Before submitting your article, do a slow and thorough proofreading of your work. A spelling checker will not flag the word "kit" as a misspelling, even though you intended to write the word "knit".

Article marketing keyword optimization is very important when marketing online. It's the element that will determine if users will be able to find your article among the million others you are competing with online. The article directory you submit your articles to also play a big role in the success of your article marketing campaign.

Now that Google seems to be artificially adjusting the PageRank of certain sites, we have one more reason to ignore it as a useful SEO key performance indicator. So what should we use to measure the success of our SEO projects? Below, I've listed the 7 SEO KPI's that I track for my sites.

1. Unique keywords: By tracking the number of unique keywords your site is found for, you'll see a global, birds eye view of how well your site is doing with the long tails. Sure, you want to be found for the important, high volume terms as well, but a healthy site will rank organically for a great diversity of keywords.

2. Organic Visits Per Page: Every page on your site should target a few keywords and draw in traffic for those terms. In other words, what percent of your total unique pages are doing a good job of bringing traffic? If you have 1000 pages, and only 200 unique keyword visits, you've got some issues that need to be addressed.

3. Conversion Rate Per Keyword: It's extremely important to know which keywords outperform others. As a search marketer, your time is very limited. Therefore, you must focus on the terms which return decent ROI.

4. Pages Indexed: The number of pages your site indexed has indexed by Google and Yahoo can give you a rough metric of your site's crawl-ability. If you find that the number of actual pages you have is much greater than the number of indexed pages, you may have issues with navigation or duplicate content. To view your indexed pages, simply use the "site:" command on Google or Yahoo (e.g. site:www.yoursite.com).

5. Yahoo Backlinks: Unlike Google, Yahoo actually shows you the approximate number of back links pointing to your site by using the link: command.

6. Google Backlinks: Unfortunately, the Google link: command is worthless. In order to see an approximate, although likely outdated count of your external links, login to your Google Webmaster Central account.

7. SERP Rankings for High Volume Keywords: Because web users are becoming more sophisticated and less predictable in their searching habits, I would caution about worrying too much about high volume keywords. However, it's still important to monitor these keyword positions. SEO software such as WebCEO or WebPositionGold are great timesaver tools.

There are many other on-site SEO metrics, such as keyword density, that might be helpful if you are targeting Yahoo or MSN. However, with the dominance of Google and the relative emphasis they place on on-page factors, I rarely consider these.

Are You Making These Article Marketing Mistakes?

As an article directory owner and editor I am exposed to a huge number of articles every single day of the week.

I sometimes receive complaints from authors who are angered by the fact that their article has not been published, which leads me to believe that there are still a lot of people out there who do not understand article marketing, nor the role that directories play.

For those who are not finding success with articles, or for those considering starting out, here are a few ground rules that will save you a lot of work in the long run and will likely get your article marketing career off to a much more auspicious start.

Read the article directory's specific terms of service and guidelines. This may seem like a boring, tedious and long winded waste of your valuable time but in the long term it will save you hours of frustration and wasted effort. All directories set their own rules and some are stricter than others. Most directories labor under a huge number of submissions and the work of sifting through them is often the job of one individual. This means that if your opening paragraph or introductory statement is poorly written or contains mistakes, that is as far as the editor will go before hitting the delete key. The luxury of time to edit an author's mistakes or to decline an article as opposed to deleting it, is one that most editors do not have.

Mass submissions are usually viewed as spam. Let's face it, none of us are capable of writing over 200 articles in a day - I would say that even producing more than ten would be a pretty amazing feat of productivity. It should come as no surprise to those submitting large numbers of articles in a 24 hour period to find that they are all deleted. Article directory software usually allows for quick erasure of such submissions, so if you don't want your work to fall victim to mass deletion, don't mass submit. All that is needed is a little common sense. If you are using a submission service, set the option to stagger your submissions over a longer period of time.

Proof read your articles. If you don't know what this means, look it up! If your writing is riddled with spelling errors, poor structure, punctuation horrors and grammatical butchery, don't be surprised if none of them get published. I could write thousands of words on the most common mistakes seen in people's writing. These usually involve spelling and grammar. Spell check your articles, even if you think you're perfect, you will often be surprised at the mistakes you make. If you tend to misspell a word regularly, you will never correct it unless you make yourself aware of it.

If you are of the opinion that these things don't matter (after all, people will know what you mean!) then think again. If you want to write and, more importantly, see your work published and picked up by other website owners and bloggers, you need to demonstrate an ability to write well.

As an example, all the "SEO experts" who talk about search engine optimisation (sic) but don't even understand that being able to spell their claimed occupation correctly would lend a little more credibility to their claims. Just for the record, most words ending in "ize" use a "z" and not an "s". This is a very common mistake, but it would be corrected by the use of a spell checker, as would so many others.

The resource box is where you need to give readers a compelling reason to visit your site(s) but it is also the one place you can make the most of good keywords as the anchor text in your links.

Use the resource box wisely and take full advantage of everything the directory is offering you by way of promotional tools. Adding your URL without making it a live link is a pointless waste of time if the directory allows you to use Hyperlinks in your resource box. Conversely, adding more than the quota of permitted links will probably result in deletion of your work.

Another thing to watch is linking directly to affiliate programs. Read the directory's policies on this point or again, you may well find yourself on the cutting room floor. Many directories will stipulate that you may only link to affiliate programs indirectly by referring readers to your own site or domain. Some do not allow straight redirect links either.

Relevancy is also an issue here too. In other words, submitting a PLR piece about gardening and linking to your MLM program is not very helpful or wise, just one more recipe for deletion.
